ANIMALS & BIRDS AMONG US - Critters & Skinks

There are lots of bluejays around and really like the sunflower seeds we put out. Cardinals are in abundance here too.

Our favorate animal is the chipmunk. Although the clearing of our lots probably disrupted many of them enough remained here to give us pleasure in watching them scurry around the property. Sam, the one and only best cat in the world, enjoyed many great days watching them out the windows. All our cats enjoy watching them. Only Speedy has ever caught one which we quickly took away and released. The chipmunk was just fine and no damage was done other than to scare the heck out of it.

We do get some good size frogs and when the spring is especially wet we have hundreds if not thousands of very small frogs around the house. Jeanne is especially fond of the hummingbirds especially after our Year On The Road where we were able to walk around in an aviar full of them. The hummingbirds seems to come and go over the years. Some years we will see a dozen or so and the next year only one or two. But we always put out the hummingbird feeder and make sure the mixture is fresh.

Another shore bird is the Little Blue Heron. It is much smaller than the Great Blue Heron. A common animal we see, as well as our cats, on our desk are Skinks. They are almost impossible to catch and you have to be very careful not to hurt them if you do catch one.
