GERMANY, JUNE-JULY, 1997 - BOOK 1/PAGE 8

The guest house is very comfortable and the bed looks inviting as we have had a long day touring castles.

We are the only patrons for dinner at the guest house's outside cafe. The first thing we order is beer and toast another excellent day in Germany. Before dinner arrives, Sally is visited by a small cat but since it lives outside we don't play with it too much.

The next morning we get up early so we can get to our next big stop, Heidelberg. But before we can leave the parking lot, we have to wait for a local farmer to drive his tractor by. On the right is another typical small German town. I would have like to get a nice close up of the town sign but perhaps another day.

I am not sure which castle this one is but on the left is a courtyard entirely within the castle. The wagon is, well, a wagon, and since it was 1997 when we saw it we can't remember the purpose but it looks interesting.

Approaching Heidelbery I take some photographs of the local trolley system. All of Germany seems to have mass transit, usually electric trains, which run on time and are in superb shape.

One main feature of Heidelbery is the Karl-Theodor Bridge over the Neckar River. This professional photograph shows the famous castle in the background on the hill.

The bridge gate house was built between 1768 and 1788 under Prince Karl Theodor who also bestowed his name on the old bridge.
