A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
June, 1991 to June, 1992

BOOK 2/PAGE 8

Shortly before reaching Valdez be passed by the beautiful Bridelveil falls. Valdez has a wonderful museum that include these old fire engines

The main attraction when in Valdez is a tour to the Columbia Glacier via one of the tour ships. On the way out of the harbor we pass by an old abandoned gold mine that was forced out of business during the 1964 earthquake.

As you would suspect, there are many waterfalls along the route to the glacier. Like any harbor, there are harbor buoys but in this harbor, seals like to jump up and rest awhile.

Unfortunately, there is never enough room for all the seals and there is a constant battle for space with the seals on the buoy unwilling to give up their spot. The Columbia Glacier is absolutely HUGE! In the photograph on the right we still are miles aways.

Although we took lots of photographs at the glacier there isn't room to include them all. On the way to Growler Island we do see lots of seals taking a break on the ice flows.

Growler Island is our lunch stop and what a lunch! A long line of all kinds of hearty foods. Jeanne loved it as they had lots of fresh fish. After lunch we have time to walk around and get our picture taken with the Columbia Glacier in the background.
