A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
BOOK 5/PAGE 1
It is now Thursday, March 20th and we leave the Petrified Forest and turn back west towards Flagstaff. Just before Flagstaff is the Walnut Canyon National Monument. This small but deep canyon holds several excellent indian ruins built into the canyon wall. It is a rather long, steep climb down and up but well worth the effort. It is amazing how anyone could climb down to where the ruins are and built homes there. It certainly is not anything that I would have done even in my younger years.
June, 1991 to June, 1992
A most un-eventful trip west now on I-40 to Bullhead City, which is just across the border from Laughlin, Nevada, where all the gambling casinos are located. We stay in the Laughlin area over a week as it is fun gambling. Fun for Jeanne but not for me as I lose what Jeanne wins! On Saturday, March 28th, our 13th anniversary, Jeanne hit the Jackpot on a quarter machine and won $605! We had to wait around for about 1/2 hour for one of the staff to verify the machine and then make out a check.
We were staying in the Ridgeview RV Resort, one of the nicest RV park anywhere, well, except for the on in Brownsville which had a small golf course. This time of year the desert if blooming as can been seen by the cactus on the left. After staying in Bullhead City until April 1st, we turned back east, heading for the Grand Canyon. We both have been looking forward to seeing it and spending some time there. On the right is one of our first views of the canyon.
The Grand Canyon - These two photographs are some of few shots where you can see the Colorado River down below.
Practically everyone signs up for an arial tour of the canyon and we were no exception. The plane is small but holds about a dozen people. All the seats have good views such as the one on the right. The remain four photographs speak for themselves. Please note the snow on the canyon wall in the photograph at the bottom left.
