A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
BOOK 5/PAGE 7
Arches National Park contains about 2,000 natural arches in all sizes and shapes. The world famous Delicate Arch is one of the most photographed arches in the park. It is a hot day when we make the hike on the three mile trail to the Delicate Arch. A gentle climb all the way of some 300 to 400 feet up. Finally we spot Delicate Arch silhouetted against the sky like a frozen rainbow. And then we arrive at arch to see it in its full splendor. We would have like to taken a photograph with one of us standing in the arch but the climb to it is rather steep and not worth the risk. But it is huge, many 60-80 high.
June, 1991 to June, 1992
Spruce Arch on the left and Tunnel arch on the right. During the afternoon the temperature rises to about 90F in the shade so we head back to the camper, start up the generator as we have no electrical connection in the park campground, turn on the air conditioner and read and charge up the camcorder batteries.
Landscape Arch is 306 feet in length and is, at the peak, 105 feet above the ground. While out walking in the evening when it is cooler, we came upon this beautiful Bull Snake in the desert.
Broken Arch is on the left which we think gets it name from the crack in the middle. On the right is the Partition Arch.
Navajo and Sand Arches.
Besides arches, the park has various monoliths. It always is strange to see flowering cacti in the desert but they are so pretty.
