A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME - June, 1991 to June, 1992
The major portion of the route through Canada was on the 1,422 mile Alaskan Highway. We made a sort of "circle" around Alaska with a side trip to Skagway, where we caught a small plane to Glacier Bay National Park. In addition, we took a regular jet from Fairbanks to Barrow, the "top of the world", and Phruhoe Bay, where the great oil field is located. On the way back down to the lower 48 States we drove the "infamous" Casiar Highway, a truck route between the lower 48 and Alaska of which 300 miles is a dirt, two lane road, with potholes, that could only be driven with a top speed of 35-40 MPH in our Motor Home.
At Prince Rupert we took our motor home on a ship to the Queen Charlotte Islands, about a six hour ride that we enjoyed. The islands are terrific and we found many interesting places to stay.
