PUERTO RICO PAGE 4
El Morro Fortress is San Juan's most recognizable landmark. It sits on the peninsula of land protecting the harbor. These photos, and many others, can be found at

This is a postcard I sent to my parents after arriving in Puerto Rico.
My photos are not quite a good as the ones above but, after all, they are nearly 50 years old and in black and white. Remember, that when I was in San Juan, El Morro has a golf couse outside and inside the grounds with one hole being played off the fortress wall around a corner.
The moat walls are over 30 feet tall and from the top you have a clear view of San Juan.
Here you can clearly see the circular guard house, called a "garitas", which is a national symbol of Puerto Rico. A common enough street scene, circa 1955, is also shown. A close up photo is above, 2nd row on the right.
The fortress served well to protect the port in the early years. From San Juan you can barely make out the golf course going towards the fortress.
I am not exactly sure where this enlisted men's club is but I assume it is at a navel base.
I believe this photo was taken near the enlisted men's club, perhaps on the road leading to it.
