HARTWELL LAKE - Our Home Location

We are just outside the city limits of Anderson, SC, which lies to the south east of us. Anderson is what we call a "long city", i.e. the most everything is within a mile of the main road through town, Clemson Blvd.

Hartwell Lake is at full pond when it reaches 660' sealevel. When the lake level is above 656' we have water behind us. When the lake level drops below 656' we have a small stream and lots tall grasses, weeds, and small trees.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both stages. When the water is high Jeanne can fish all she wants to in the evenings or mornings. But this also allows jet-skies to come back into our cove and with them comes their loud noise. When the water is low Jeanne cannot fish, in fact we have to take her boat out of the water before the lake level gets too low as then it would be "high & dry" on the mud flats that remain. But with the lake low the herons and other shore birds return to feasting. The deer can easily wander over into our back yard, well actually the Corps Of Engineers property, and surprise us in the evenings or early morning.

Out location is about 2.5 miles from Jeanne's Church, the Toyota Dealership, Publix where we buy our food, and most everything else we need. Our general practitioner doctor is about 5 minutes away, the huge Anderson Medical (AnMed) campus is 8 minutes away and the hospital is 10 minutes away. AnMed serves all of Anderscon county, the Upstate of South Carolina and Northern Georgia.
