JEANNE AND I - BOOK 1, PAGE 8

Jeanne and I can not begin to tell you how nice it is to get through skiing for the day, jump into your swim suits, run up to the hot pool and jump in. It really is hard to leave once we are in. The air temperature is about 25F and the water is about 100F and soooo nice to relax in. There is a sauna next to the pool but we generally just soak in the pool hot water.

This is the 2nd ski lift up from the bottom as Snowmass. Our "room" is about 2 blocks from the bunny hill where the lift starts so it is really is easy to walk over there, put our skies on and ski down about 200 yard to the start of the 2nd lift. At this time, about 1980 or 1981, it took about 45 minutes to ride and ski all the way to the top of the Big Burn area, one of the nicest runs around.

On the right, Jeanne relaxing coming down from the top for a lunch break.

I believe the photo on the left is of Elk Camp, which is another great run to go down as it is quite long and not that steep most of the way. Jeanne has good skiing from considering how little she has been skiing.

A lunch break is always a treat even though the food is expensive. But considering how the food has to be brought up the mountain to the restaurants we really can't complain. After lunch we have to go back out into the cold and Jeanne stops long enough for me to get her pictures.

The Big Burn must be at least 800 yards wide with some area going through the trees, if one dared to go. We did several times and found it great fun and a real treat after just skiing the wide open spaces.

The Big Burn area is behind me in the photo on the left. On the right is one more shot of the hot pool. That is all we think about in the afternoon, when can we stop and jump into they pool.

There is one small problem when you first get to Snowmass and that is how in the heck to you get to one of the restaurant? This one, on the left is easy to see but you have to get out your map and check to see which lift will get you above it so you can ski down to it. On the right is part of the Big Burn with a non-ski area in the background. The just is nothing like being at the top of snowmass on a nice day and looking around from miles and miles in the distance.
