JEANNE AND I - BOOK 2, PAGE 1

This page is all about our trip to New Orleans. Columbia Gas sent me to a conference there and I took Jeanne along. We were there a few extra days and enjoyed the sights. On the left if the famous park near downtown and the waterfront. On the right is just one of the street in the French Quarter where we were staying.

I think that every tourist takes a photo of the street corner in the left photo and we were no exception. On the right is one of the most interesting places in New Orleans, a graveyard! Due to the extremely high water table, i.e. the ground water is only a few feet below the surface, people are buried in vault above ground.

Two more scenes within the graveyard. Most unusal to say the least. I believe the people are buried on a certain row depending upon their social status.

New Oleans has a wonderful old tolley system and we took the Charles Street tolley to the end of that line and back. At the end of the line the conductor goes outside and changes the overhead connector so he can then go back down the line in the opposite direction.

Just two more street scenes in the French Quarter. It was really fun to sight see in the Quarter and at night it is a whole different place, especially with all the strip clubs and bars. Many of the bars feature "Blues bands" and the music sweeps out the door as you pass. Just wonderful!

Naturally we did stop and inspect a riverboat and even got to see the famous Dome statium.
