JEANNE AND I - BOOK 2, PAGE 10

As we head up the lift towards Big Burn we notice something in a tree. We are pretty sure what it is so we ski down back towards the tree and find a nice porcupine sleeping. Or so we think as with us near by he doesn't move an inch. Jeanne waits for me to snap this photogrpah and then "zooms" down the slope.

This in the road back to our condo. It really is a short walk, maybe 100 yards or so and really great to stay in. The condo is the Aspenwood. On the right is the "bunny hill" where you can catch a lift to another lift to another lift to finally get to the top. Before Snowmass put in high speed quad-chairs it took about 45 minutes to ride to the top. Now it is about 1/2 that time.

We really like the Big Burn area as it has lots of wide open slope and some areas with trees that you can ski through. Just be careful as if you hit some deep snow you can easily hit a tree! On the right is a close up of one of the slopes.

Jeanne likes this run which I believe is my favoriate, Banzai. And this time of year, later January, there are few crowds unlike Sugarbush where the crowds were huge on the weekends and wait times at the botton for a lift was 30 minutes to make a 5 minute run.

Jeanne takes my picture with Big Burn in the background. From our condo we can see the sun come up for another day of skiing.

A picture is worth a 1,000 words and this is a perfect example. How nice it is to ski an area like this with no one around, you can make "tracks", and enjoy the mountains in the background.
