"A Narrative of the Captivity of John McCullough"

My middle name, McCullough, is taken from the McCullough side of the Thomson family. My mother and father had a handwritten book by John McCullough dated and was the property of David McCullough on March 12, 1833. It told of his capture by and living with the living with Indians and how he finally escaped.

My parents gave the book to me and, as a historical document, I donated it to The Ohio State Library, 274 E 1st Ave #100, Columbus, OH 43201 in the late 1980s. Note below that the document is located in the "Rare Books" section and can only be used in the library.

The cover page of the document is shown below. As you can easily see, the document was the property of "David McCullough".

My mother spend months copying his narrative using a typewritter. Due to his handwriting my mother only got through several chapters before she was unable to see clearly what he had written. Below is the first page of the document. Below it is my mother's typed page. You can easily see way she had a difficult time in "reading" and transcription the document.

The 2nd and 3rd orginal pages are shown below. Note on page 2, line 9, the reference to "Brodock War". You can read about this "war" at Barddock Expedition"

Read carefully this 3rd page to see when he says he is 8 years old and his brother is 5 years old.
Finally, this photograph shows a family, which I assume is a McCullogh family, but I have no idea if it is John or David McCullough.
