A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
June, 1991 to June, 1992

BOOK 1/PAGE 1

We begin our trip from our home in Columbus, OH, which we sold before we left. The sale worked out fine as we were able to close the deal two weeks before we were to leave and we spent the last two weeks in Columbus at a campground a mile or so from my office.

We drove north to Michigan and to Saginaw where my brother Jim and his wife Jan lived. A short stop over there and then on to the "Big Mac", the bridge over the straits to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

On the other side of the bridge, i.e. in Upper Michigan we stopped on the shore to give Sam a break and for us to get lunch. Then it was "pushing on" to Wisconsin.

Another break on the shore line and then we finally reach the St. Croix River a few days later to cross into Wisconsin.

We stop at the Pipestone National Monument where the indians quarried stone to make their pipes with. When we were there local indians were giving demonstrations of the technique.

The Missouri River, another of the "great rivers" of America. As we cross into South Dakota the scenery changes and new animals appear, such as the prairie dog.

There is nothing to compare to the Badlands of South Dakota. These pictures just don't do it justice, you have to go there and see it. It is a great place to hike and just relax. One thing to watch out for if you go there are the thunderstorms which can produce large hail. We were extremely lucky as we went to a town near by and just missed being in one of these huge storms. When we drove back to the campground we saw lots of hail on the side of the road, it looked like snow. But then we saw the cars and campers with huge dents, 2" or more in diameter, on their vehicles.
