A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
June, 1991 to June, 1992

BOOK 4/PAGE 5

It is the first part of February and we head to Florida so Jeanne can visit with her mother and sister. There really is not much to see on the way from Houston to Florida as we drive on I-10. But we do take time to stop and in see my son, Chris, who is attending Florida State University in Tallahassee. Chris has some time off from his studies, in International Business, so he gives us the tour of the campus. On the right is the Administration Building. FSU is a really pretty campus and Chris enjoys being there. Although I help him out a bit on his expenses, Chris has done a great job of getting himself through school.

We stop at Dorothy, Jeanne's sister home, in Inverness. She and Norman, now deceased, live in a trailer park, Moonrise Resort, on a nice fishing lake, Lake Tsala Aporka. In the evening, Dorothy takes us on a boat tour and we are able to get rather close to the woodstorks that live near by.

As we were leaving Tallahassee, or was it Inverness, an armadillo ran across the road but we were fast enough to stop and get his/her photograph. The navy ship on the right was taken from a ferry boat that we took some place along the trip back out west. After visiting people in Florida we turned around and headed back out west to see the states we had missed, such as Utah and Colorado.

While on the ferry we pasted close by an oil rig. Then we were back in Texas and stopping at the Johnson Space center which controlled all the USA space exploration. On the right is a Lunar Module.

On the left is the control room. Note the orbit map on the wall. On the right is a rocket. The yellow oval is there to show you people looking at the rocket so you can judge the size of the rocket.

When I first went to work for Columbia Gas in their Research Department in the mid 1960s, my boss was John Van Dyke, an exceptional gentleman, who helped me a great deal with my work. He was later promoted to Vice President and move to Houston in the Columbia Gulf Transmission Company (CG). CG transported natural gas from the Gulf Of Mexico to Ohio and other northern states using three huge pipelines, 30" and two 36" in diameter. So, on our trip we just had to stop in and visit with them.

Then we drove to Albuquerque, New Mexico where we stayed for several days. There is a ski area just north of town in the Sandia Mountains. So, when in Albuquerque do as the locals do - SKI!
