A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
June, 1991 to June, 1992

BOOK 4/PAGE 6

Don't be fooled by the SLOW SIGN! Jeanne never skis slow or on easy trails. The trails should be black and steep. Fortunately for me the Sandis Ski Area was mostly Blue (moderate) and Green (bunny). But the area has several lifts and most of the runs were long with a decent drop, 1,700 feet, unlike any of the ski areas in Ohio north of Columbus.

The ski area is north of Albuquerque and faces north so the snow can last a long time. To get to the ski area you can take a 15 minute ride in the cable car up the mountain. At the top you can look back down and see part of the city. Well, you really can't see the city in the photograph with it is there just behind the mountain.

There are lots of great tourist things in Albuquerque such as the old part of town with its church. As we leave town and head for Arizona we do stop over night at the nice Church Rock State Park, which gets its named from the rock formation shown on the right.

Of all the animals we have seen in parks, these sheep were unexpected to say the least. But the park does have some nice trails, especially the trail up this canyon.

Another wonder place to visit in Arizona is Canyon De Chelly. This was home to the Anasazi Indians of long ago. They had villages in the floor and walls of the canyon, many of which you can walk to.

Both sides of the canyon have trails on top so we take them all. But lunch time calls so we take a break. One of the overlooks has a great view of one of the villages built into the wall, both for protection from the elements and enemies.
