A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
BOOK 4/PAGE 8
Monument Valley - Navajo Tribal Park, Arizona & Utah - If you ever go to Utah be sure to stop and tour Monument Valley. This valley is a site to behold. So many monoliths and so many kinds you simply can' believe your eyes. This is the valley made famous by the John Ford Movie, Stagecoach, staring a young John Wayne. After this movie came out it seemed that all the studios in Hollywood wanted to make a western there. Even today, many advertisements are shot here.
The rock formation on the left is a few miles from the entrance of the Monument. The Navajo do charge you for entering the valley and offer guided jeep tours, one of which we took. We were fortunate as March is not a busy tourist month so we and the guide were the only ones on the tour.
June, 1991 to June, 1992
The valley is breath taking to see. On the way, we stop so I can have my photograph taken with a local Navajo little girl, for which I paid here $1.00. She sure was a "cutie-pie".
On the right is the Big W our guide told us. He said it could be named for John Wayne.
The road, all dirt and sand, is quite long and crosses other roads many times. I am glad we have guide who knows where here is going. The stone monoliths are everywhere.
The photograph on the left is one of my personal favorites on the valley. And the one on the right is not bad either. The guide would stop anyplace we wanted to so we could walk around and find a good spot for a photograph.
You never really get tired of seeing the valley. Always a new, interesting view around the curve in the road.
