A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
BOOK 4/PAGE 9
Monument Valley - Navajo Tribal Park, Arizona & Utah - There are many strange sites to see in the valley. This, on the left, is one example of how the wind, rain, snow, and temperature, can change the landscape. On the left is one of the many preserved Indian Petroglyhs in the valley. No on is quite sure how to read them.
June, 1991 to June, 1992
Our guide explains the petroglyhs to us as best he can.
The ear of the wind on the left. On the right is a photograph taken just outside our RV of the evening as the sun sets. We stay in a "dry" campsite for $5 with no hook ups but that is not a problem for use as we have the generator.
What can I say, more wonderful monoliths in the valley. On the right is the famous hole in the roof that was used in the the TV show, Airwolf, which aired from 1984 - 1987 starring Jan-Michael Vincent and Ernest Borgnine. This show was about a Blackhawk helicopter and the opening showed the helicopter raising up from a cave through a hole if the roof. This is the actual hole used in that scene.
The sun sets and we can hit the sack with no one for miles around us. In the morning we wake up to softly rings bells and find a herd of sheep being guided through the campground by several indians and their sheep dogs.
After breakfast we say a fond farewell to Monument Valley and head towards our next destination, Navajo Nation Monument. Unfortunately, it was very windy and cold that day and all the trails were closed except for the overlook. We could easily see the ruins but it was too bad we couldn't get closer.
