GERMANY, JUNE-JULY, 1997 - BOOK 1/PAGE 4
We drove to the town of Creglingen, just a bit northwest of Rothenburg where we stayed at a guest house, shown in the right hand photo, the building on the left. Guest house are quite common in Germany and they are like American Bed & Breakfast houses.
The German guest houses are beautiful and old. The room are very nice and the beds all have very thick comforters on them. All have a dining room where the most wonderful breakfast is served. On the right, Sally, Hardy, Dave and Jeanne enjoy one of these breakfasts.
The next day we check out. Jeanne and Sally consent to a photo at the front door of the guest house. Then we stop at a petro station where Hardy fills his the tank of his BMW. The price of gas is in Marks/liter and, due to the high taxes on gas, could easily run $70-100/tank.
Even leaving a German town is an adventure and Jeanne and I marvel at the town buildings. Again, town are close together and small, about one every 3-5 miles it seems.
Churches in Germany all have spires and they are very ornate. The towns sometimes have streets that we feel are too narrow for cars.
One of the most unusual house we saw on the trip was this one that was built over the road and thus had to have tunnels through it so cars could enter/exit the town. On the right is just another guest house but the outside decorations are what impresses us.
