GERMANY, JUNE-JULY, 1997 - INTRODUCTION - PAGE 1
Hardy and Christa Meyer-Wagen, Sally, a.k.a. Sabina's parents, invited Jeanne and I to visit Germany and stay with them for several weeks during the summer of 1997. We were thrilled with the offer and immediately accepted and made our plans. We would fly from Atlanta to Frankfort and then on the Hamburg where we would be met at the airport.
Hardy and Sally picked us up at the airport and it was exciting to finally meet Sally's parents. We after a drive through the city of Hamburg we arrived at the Meyer-Wagen's home in the outskirts of Hamburg, and a lovely home is it.
On the right is the Meyer-Wagen family, Hardy, Christa, and Sabine (Sally).
Sally's boyfriend, Jüorg, was around quite a bit and a very nice guy. Christa has an outstanding garden in the front of their home. We spent many wonderful times eating and visiting out there.
The neighborhood that Hardy and Christa live in is perfect. Each house has a large hedge separating it from other houses and you can hardly tell the neighbor is next door, well you can if you look out the 2nd store window. Jeanne and I took walks just to look at all the lovely houses and every 6th or 7th house has a walkway between the house's hedges so you could easily get from one street to another.
Lunch was nothing less than outstanding! Especially out on the porch overlooking the garden. Christa served the best food I have ever eaten. I think we both gain 10 pounds in the three weeks were over there.
Jeanne and I had a comfortable bedroom upstairs and we used the dining room table to write some post cards.
At times we all played cards, what games I don't recall, but they sure were fun. On the right, Jeanne snacks on roll that Hardy or Christa always got fresh each day from a small bakery down the street a bit or at the local mall where Christa shopped.
One variety of roll that Jeanne choose every other day was the sweet roll. I, on the other hand, used the crescent roll with cheese, of which Christa has at least three each morning.
