GERMANY, JUNE-JULY, 1997 - INTRODUCTION - PAGE 4

When we got back to Sally's home, Christa was just going to the mall to shop so we went with her and stopped in one of the mall cafe to have lunch. The mall has the typical stores like the USA but, in addition, there are many food shops where you can buy cheese, vegetable, meats, produce, flowers, and bread! The bread can be purchased in loafs, 1/2 loaf, or even by the slice!

Remember the Tower and the park it was in on the previous page? Well, Hardy, Christa, Sally, Jüorg and I all go back there in the evening for their famous light, music and water show. The lake has various water spouts that can be remotely controlled as well as music and different colored lights from different angles around the spouts. A team of people "plays" the water spouts and lights according to the music that is played. Many people come whenever the show is scheduled and sit around in the dark and watch the show. It is quite an experience.

If you ever get to Hamburg make sure you find out when the park's water show will be displayed. The next day we all went to the coast, northeast of Hamburg, to see Timmendorfer Strand, a resort town and beach just north of Lubeck on the Ostsee or East Sea. The town map is shown on the right.

On the way to Timmendorfer Stand, Hardy stops the car so he can show us one of the many German Police's radar units by the road side. On the right the "tourists" pose for a group photograph, taken by Jeanne. There is Jüorg, Christa, Sally, Hardy and me.

The beach is the main attraction but there are other sights to see.

I happen to catch the strange, dark ship sailing past as Jeanne takes off her shoes and does a bit of wading in the sea.
