Introduction
August, 2003 arrives and Jeanne and I still miss Sam, our first cat, who passed away on May 19 of this year. You can learn more about Sam by visiting his scrapbook.
On Friday, August 1st, Jeanne notices a photograph in our local newspaper, the Anderson Independent-Mail, of a kitten that is up for adoption at the Anderson County Animal Shelter. The kitten is cute, but what kitten is not. So, on the spur of the moment we decide to stop by the shelter the next day, Saturday, and look at the kittens.
We arrive at the Shelter and find about 4-6 people looking at the cats in the separate cat "show room". Upon entering we immediately see a cage that has two kittens in it, one a gray tiger and the other a black-white calico. They are so cute and we can't resist opening the cage and taking them out even though we are suppost to get permission first.
The gray tiger has a tremendous purr and wants to "snuggle up to your neck". The calico is not quite as friendly but gladly welcomes you holding him/her/it. The cage door still has a card on it that means the kittens are still available.
Neither Jeanne nor I can make up our mind as to which one we want as they both are so cute and friendly. Finally, since they were both in the same cage and probably have been together at the Shelter we decide to take them both! We must be mad.
Checking with the attendant we are told to bring the cards from the cage door to him and then he will arrange the adoption. The cards say that the gray tiger is a male (2 months) and the calico is a female (9 months) but we are quite sure about that as the calico looks to be no older than the tiger. The attendant tells us that the vet will correct the data when they are neutered, which included in the adoption fee. Since we are taking two kittens the attendant charges us only $55 for the pair.
I name the gray tiger Peanut and Jeanne names the black-white calico Cali. We will be able to pick them up next Wednesday between 1PM-4:30PM after they are neutered.
