Count Down To Pick Up Day

Monday, August 4th
Jeanne is away from home playing in a golf tournament and with my back still in bad shape, i.e. can't play golf myself, I am sitting around home playing with my web pages, going in and out of GeoCities Help Chat room trying to help people with their web sites, reading a book, and watching TV. A lackluster day to say the least.

Naturally, I am thinking, i.e. having second thoughts, about us adopting two kittens and having to pick them up in two days. We will be tripling the number of cats in our home and we both are hoping that Speedy will not have a problem accepting the two new kittens. But then we remember how Sam acted towards Speedy when we first got her 10 years ago and figured that Speedy would gradually accept them (but that is another chapter).

Since the day was going rather slowly I decided to stop over at the Shelter and make sure the kittens had not gotten adopted my mistake by someone else. It is about a 15 minute drive to the shelter and, since they are open in the afternoons, I can see the kittens. But they are not in the same cage when we were there on Saturday!

I ask the attendant and she quickly points out they are down one row and over the left one cage. I ask for permission to handle them which she gives quickly. The are so cute and Peanut is sure a snuggler to say the least. Cali is very friendly and the both seems to enjoy being picked up and held.

It really is hard to leave them at the shelter but arrangements have been made and, besides, it is only two more days.

Tuesday, August 5th
One more day until we pick the kittens up and I talk Jeanne into stopping over at the Animal Shelter and visiting them. Again, we are able to handle them and again they both snuggle up to us as soon as we pick them up.

We walk out to the attendant holding the kittens and, in talking to the attendant, we mention that they both seem to be sneezing a bit. She tells us that then they can't be neutered tomorrow but rather on Friday as they can't be treated for the respiratory problem the same day as they would be neutered. But then, out of the blue, she asks we would like to take them home today!

Naturally we instantly in unison YES! and that we will take them to our vet for treatment. We sign some paper and, with nothing but a golf towel to protect us from their sharp claws, we pile in the car and head for home with two kittens that probably only weight about 2-3 pounds each.
