A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
BOOK 2/PAGE 3
Barrow has a gas station where the natives can fill up but the gas is very expensive due to the transportation costs. Also by Barrow is one of the US military early warning radar stations, i.e. a DEW station.
June, 1991 to June, 1992
Several of the local natives have seal skins out to dry. The huge whales bones are used as the "gateway to the Artic" in Barrow.
Barrow's city hall is really quite nice and very well decorated. The Will Roger's Monument is near the center of town to lay tribuite to the famous entertainer who died in a plane crash near by.
The Tundra Tour bus is the one we took to visit around Barrow and see Point Barrow, the most northern point in Alaska. Beside seal skins, one native has a polar bear skin drying.
The phot on the left is of the Chief Of Police's home while on the right is a photo of the only dog sled team in Barrow.
When we left Barrow we flew to Deadhorse, which is the gate way to Prudhoe Bay. The oil field is huge and you have to take a tour bus to see all the sight, one of which is the photo on the right of quite a few enclosed gas/oil wells.
