A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
June, 1991 to June, 1992

BOOK 3/PAGE 7

I believe these are seals but they could be sea lions and as there are quite a few of both in the area. There is a tourist attraction nearby that, for $5, takes you down 208 feet to a cave full of sea lions. You can get a great, up close look at them, that is if you can stand the smell! It smells like a combination of feces and rotten fish. The shore line and beaches stretch as far as one can see for the vantage point.

At some points, the dunes extend inland with some dunes being very high, over 30 feet. But once you get back the shore line and look back it can be very beautiful.

We leave the coast and head for Crater Lake, which we understand is really beautiful to see. On the way we spot a large herd of Elk by the road and stop so Jeanne can get this nice photograph of two of them. Then it is on to Diamond Lake, about 14 miles from Crater Lake and has the nearest campground. After securing a site we finally get to Crater Lake. Almost no one else is there as the road completely around the lake seems deserted.

Wizard Island sits not in the center but off to the side. There is no wind and the surface of the lake is like a mirror.

Parts of the old volcano rim is quite high. Wizard Island from a different vantage point.

Jeanne takes several photographs so she can combine two for a wide angle view.

Then it is back to the coast where on the way we see this most unusual rock formation by the road.
