A YEAR ON THE ROAD IN OUR MOTORHOME
June, 1991 to June, 1992

BOOK 4/PAGE 10

Navajo National Monument is west of Monument Valley and we could only get these two other photographs as all the trails were closed when we arrived.

Just north of Flagstaff, Arizona is the Sunset Volcano. The crater is awesome and the lava field is not something your walk around in with bare feet.

One more photograph of the lava field and then we continue on east of Flagstaff to the Painted Desert. Here you can see petrified wood and indian petroglyhs. Photographs, at least ours, just don't do justice to the Painted Desert. The colors seems to be more intense.

Newspaper rock is so named due to the extensive petroglyhs inscribed on it. Visitors are not allowed anywhere near the rock.

As you drive through the Painted Desert it seems as if the landscape changes all the time. At note of caution: do not attempt to steal any petrified wood as your car could be searched upon leaving.

There are several, large fields of petrified wood. Hiking trails are easy and you can see many fine specimens in each field.
