Golf Course Rating Assistant (GCRA)

TABLETS

When GCRA was working on a computer I contacted Scott Hovada, USGA to see if he might be interested in how I could use GCRA on an 8" windows tablet with any Microsoft OS, e.g. 10. I sent him one of my tablets so he could play with it to see how course rating could be accomplished on a Windows tablet.

Scott told me once a few years back, that the USGA was looking into having raters use an IPad, as many people already had an IPad, to rate course in the field. Once again, apparently this idea was scraped. I suspect they realized the completity of having a program, like GCRA, developed using existing experienced programmer using technology. This makes sense as it can take a team of programmer a year to develop an app like "Angry Birds".

Apparently he was not interested in GCRA being able to run on a tablet.

I have talked to Greg Kelly, Director of Course Rating & Membership, Carolina Golf Association about rating courses on a tablet, or perhaps, on a cellphone. I told me that a few years back he and others had looked into this but, apparently, they determined it would not be practical.
